When you start investing your time and money into an online business venture, you expect to claim the profits immediately. Well, at least that is the case for some people. They expect once the money is rolled into a business, they would start to get the profits. As much as many others wish for that to happen, we have to be realistic here. No business is going to reap the benefits without having to work hard to achieve it. There are things you need to do to ensure your business runs smoothly before you can see the revenue. Once you see the revenue, you still have to work hard to ensure you keep reaping the benefits.

For instance, if you are venturing into an affiliate marketing business, you need to set up a website to promote the products or services. There is no way you can sell the items without having your own website. Before you work on your website, you need to learn how to choose the right keywords for your business. It is important to keep in mind that the keywords you choose should be more than three words for the time being. The less competition the keywords is, the better.

Then, the keywords you have selected can be used to promote your products or services using Twitter, Facebook, Stumble Upon and many other social networking platforms. You could expand your targeted keyword list by using a keyword research tool, which you can find on the Internet. We are curious creatures when it comes to our business, so if you are curious about your current rankings on Google, you can keep track by using the Google Keyword Tracker. You can learn more about choosing the right keywords and many related topics by visiting a reputable website called Shuckabuck.

You have probably heard a lot about the idea of the long tail keyword. The idea is that when people are searching the internet, the chances are that they aren’t going to be typing into Google just the keyword phrase that you have optimised your site or page for. And I have proved this, most of the traffic that I receive at my sites I have never actually optimised for at all.

In fact I can’t! The results are in, and the figures have been counted. One of the problems that we face is that the more words that there are in a longtail phrase, the less likely hood there is of you actually being able to create multiple pages that hit all those phrases. It stands to reason really, because each time you add one word the number of ways of combining those words and combining words of similar meaning drastically increases. There are a couple of things you can do about that to help you to get the google adsense earning clicks you are looking for from the longtails.

Firstly, when you create your post or page for your site, look in the Google keyword tool for all the options. Choose the first 10 different ways of saying what you have already aimed for in your post, and put them into your post page. What you are really looking for is anything 3 words or over long Just work them in. As long as your keyword is still there 3 times, once for each of the others won’t influence which high paying adsense ads are displayed.

The next thing to do is to put those keywords as tags on your page.

And finally, go and write some articles for ezine articles that targets each of those keywords and link back to your site.

Ok, so how does this help you?

There is a lot of chat about the head, and the tail in terms of marketing with Google adsense. The head is the short couple of words, or single word. It is often the word which will get you the most money per click. It’s also true that there is horrendous competition for that one word! So the trick is to first find the right set of words that will work for you (see the link I provided above for more information).

The long tail keyword however will probably only get you one or two people clicking in to find your page. However, and this is the clever bit, by having multiple keyword phrases, that are all related, on a really long post (talking well over 1000 words here!) then you will find that you get huge amounts of traffic for those long tail phrases.

In fact, someone has recently suggested that most people will get 60% or more traffic from their long tails that are natural and lightly optimised than their truly heavily optimised head posts.

So don’t be scared of the longtail, instead, embrace it and see the web traffic roll on in!
