Little companies usually lack the extra capital required to launch multimedia advertising campaigns. In all reality many businesses that have been up and running several years lack the resources to run successful campaigns and to acquire new customers. Don’t worry, you are not alone.
Advertising mediums can be very costly. Even with ample funding most large companies find it hard to make the best use of their advertising budget. Add to that the many new companies starting every day competing over every imaginable medium and you have a very difficult situation.
However there are nontraditional avenues with which to advertise. They usually use less capital to implement and are often more effective, the only draw back is the time required to develop them successfully.
Coupons are a great start to any marketing campaign. You do not have to distribute them in print advertising or mailer campaigns, you can hand them out on the corner or at a trade show, really just about any place. You can send coupons to some of your most repeat customers or include them in a ‘next purchase’ campaign.
Coupons can be quick and dirty to design and print because the reason people use them is for what is printed not how. In an effort to create stronger ties to the customer consider making the coupon promotion generous.
People also love a good contest; they even love to see other people win. The reason most game shows are so successful is because people relate so well to the contestants and want to see them do well. If you decide to use a contest in some way make sure it’s fun, easy to participate and easy to understand, that doesn’t mean it needs to be easy to win.
People also love gifts and create strong bonds with gifts the use and develop a ‘couldn’t live without’ type of relationship with. Customized lanyards can be a great way to accomplish this because they are so versatile and carry your companies name at direct eye level.
Large sale events are another tried and true method of attracting new customers and getting your current ones back in the store. As long as they are executed properly you can create some really positive word of mouth. The event doesn’t have to be strictly a sales event, it can be a charity event or a celebrity appearance of some kind, even if it’s a local artist the point is you want a positive association between you and the customer.
